Marjorie's Closet - Coucou

October 5, 2010

While Marjorie's Closet is getting a makeover I would like to tell you  how much I appreciate everyone I met along the way. From the day I decided to blog and get involve in the fashion industry, I realized that Montreal is indeed a fun city with a lot to do. I must say that I cannot keep up. Also, I would like to underline the ones I encountered who truly impressed me. I have had great inspirational conversations with bloggers, designers and iconic  fashion personalities . In addition, I got acquainted to some of you from which have even turned into wonderful new friendships.  I leave you here with a little sneak peek of my journey from the past couple weeks and what is coming up. Montreal inspired me, especially last week as everyone celebrated the 19th fashion week edition.

One stiletto at a time

July 17, 2010

Perhaps you wonder about my many projects that are underway. Due to life circumstances I had to take the difficult decision to either put them on hold or completely pull out. Indeed, I could not attend the last ELLE EVENT and be part of a photo-shoot as the stylist.  I have no regrets since I see it as life experiences that are meant to be. In consequence, I have not blogged often as I wished.

In the light of the amazing fashion talents we have here in Montreal, I decided to change directions. I wish to put my focus on keeping you in the know of who they are and where you can purchase their items. Moreover, I am preparing to bring Marjorie's Closet to the next level such as writing en français. Will you join me as I reveal new finds and places to be ?

With that being said, bear with me while I build this project one stiletto at a time ...It will be worth it.

Fashion Break

Two months ago I made a "Tribute to Someone Very Special ". Time flies since it has been two months already. As family and some of my best friends gathered to visit my father during his last days, I had found myself questioning every action both doctors and nurses where doing to keep my father alive.

I was fortunate enough since my father's room was kept clean. According to what I saw, needles, hazardous substances, and used materials where kept in sealed containers away from patients.
However, it was brought to my attention that the U.S government recently released its annual report on the quality of health care that Americans receive and while there have been some improvements, the news was not positive: hospitals still have work to do to put an end to the ongoing, but very solvable, problem of patients acquiring life-threatening infections in hospitals.  While this dilemma is raised in America, here in Canada perhaps we are not excluded from it either.
To help achieve that, Kimblery-Clark Healthcare has put together a website called "Not on My Watch" at www.haiwatch.com to educate patients and health care professionals.  Their goal is to eliminate these preventable illnesses and their often tragic consequences.

Please read and support the following by visiting www.haiwatch.com .

Keep in mind that loved ones suffering are vulnerable and you may not want them to suffer from additionnal complications in hospitals.

Tribute to someone very special

May 15, 2010

Hello Fashionistas,
I have not written in while due life circumstances. My life cheerleader & father has  passed away on april 18 2010 of Pulmonary Fibrosis at the age of 67. At first, I was reluctant to share this story since in the fashion industry we tend to focus on what is beautiful, surreal and fabulous. However, after taking a step back, I believe that sharing how he inspired me would somehow bring some closure.

My father's chilhood home in Gaspé. Now in ruins ... This house was recently destroyed.

First, writing  a post about my dad would require me to write a book. Therefore, I wish to put my emphasis on what made him so special and how much he believed in me.

First picture top left : My dad in the center dressed up in suit and tie. Bottom left : My dad in short so funny Right side : My father with funky pants behind him grandma Bertha Thibeault

My father worked hard all his life. He enrolled in the army, worked in the mines and later as a salesman. Selling was is number one skill. Alongside my mom, he sold life insurance and trust funds for children’s education. He would only push products he believed in such as education and securing life. On the other hand, he knew how to persuade prospects into buying from him. People loved him because he created one on one relationships with each clients and made sure to answer their needs.

My last picture with dad last year. Not my best picture. I look so tired !

Another quality he possessed was having a positive attitude despite dealing with unpleasant life situations. He lived through many trials and tribulations but never gave up. His determination to prevail  came from this cheesy life moto he would always say ” Never give up and Never surrender”.  If asked how he was doing, he would always reply “ wonderful “ despite life’s rises and downfalls. Everyone in the neighborhood knew him since he always enjoyed lenghty conversation and knowing people. I actually got my networking skills from him.

Mom and Dad at their wedding day. No comments on the glasses lol.

Moreover, he was always available to listen when I was going through difficult times. It was never too early or to late to ask him for help. When I first told him about my project, Marjorie’s Closet, he told me : “ This is the one, this is the good one ! “. I was surprised because if I compare it to my many other endeavors that I have given up,  he really did not want me to let  this particular project go. He simply added to put my trust in God, take a rest if needed but never quit.

Always sitting with his arm on the table and the other hand  resting on his lap.
He will be deeply missed. My father possessed the best qualities a human being can have: honesty, being smart, have empathy, the desire to help and listen to others. I will indeed use what he taught me for the rest of my life.

My father in Calgary waiving goodbye. Never thought that that would be is last smile .

May you rest in peace, my dearest dad.
